Now that the 29er has been proven to be a winning combination 2012 is going to be the year that we see many riders buying in to the 29er market. We predict that as oppose to choosing one or the other many riders will want a 29er in their arsenal. The combination of the hardtail frame with larger wheels is definitely one that makes sense. Larger wheels roll smoother over smaller obstacles and are more efficient on sustained longer climbs. In fact one study found the 29er was 4% faster uphill than a 26" and 3% faster on an 3 mile XC loop (MacRae and Herr, 2003). If you don't really care about speed and time you will care that many riders claim the 29er is really fun to ride.
