More Workshop news just in....
"Many drivetrains are coming our way with substantial wear which is being highlighted by
the dry weather having removed grime that was essentially holding parts together. The chain is the fastest
wearing item in the drivetrain as it has the most moving parts (links) closely followed by the cassette/freewheel and then the chain rings.
The cost of components is comparable to the wear rates (chain less/chainrings more).
If you are a regular rider (commuter) leaving your chain to completely wear out will end up costing you
considerably more as you will need to replace the other components also.
The best way to counter this is to have 2 chains and a chain tool!
By rotating the chains once a month you could extend the life of your whole drivetrain by
2-3 times as the wear would be spread over the chains and not so much on the cassette/rings."
So there you have it... free workshop advice from Brad and James!

Workshop News from Brad and James 16/06/10
"We now have a plan to keep you guys updated and informed of current issues and products that are catching our eye in the workshop - hopefully this will give you an insight and knowledge to upgrade along with adding that extra little bit of life to you ride.
Over the past couple of weeks we have had an influx of forks requiring service, mainly Fox models. Four of these services required the customer to buy new uppers (£120) due to the coating on the stanchions being worn away by contaminants and dirt working past the seals.
This could have been avoided by more frequent servicing (£45 plus £15 seal kit) and more frequent cleaning intervals. We recommend you AVOID pressure washing as it allows dirt to pass seals that were not designed to see high pressure water blown into them. If you can't keep em super clean then we recommend Fork Juice as a 'mini service' every ride. This will leave more pennies in your pockets AND enhance the performance of your steed!" - Brad

June continues the busy theme at TBC - road bikes and mountain bikes are zooming out the shop at a fair old pace and Dakine is selling really well on-line.
Colin is away on another wee voyage of discovery in the North East - there will be a report when he gets back!

Hot Sunny Weather Shocker means we are out riding as much as we can be. Colin and Mark (me) headed up to Pitlochry with Jimmy, Andy, Kit, Chris, Steve and the some of the other STW Scotland crowd.
It was a blinder - a classic day out in the hills and some seriously hot weather. A couple of comedy moments from Colin and Andy provided laughs and finger pointing (and also a wee bit of worry - thanks Andy!) and we finished the day in the beer garden with Fish and Chips.
I took the chance to ride and review a Ragley mmmbop to see what the fuss was about. I also gave the Joplin 4 a wee shot as well - you can read some comments here: Joplin 4 page and mmmBop page.
In other news... The TBC Wednesday Night ride is gathering popularity with up to a mammoth 13 riders being counted on our adventures. If you want to come ride your mountain bike in the hills surrounding Edinburgh, eat cakes, have a laugh, fall off and generally just be with like minded folk then rock up to the shop at 6pm for the ride up.
If you can't make it at 6pm then we usually can be found loitering at Bonaly General Store at 7pm. ALL WELCOME irrespective of experience.

Etape Caledonia - early closing!!
In order to get to registration on Saturday 15th in Pitlochry, we're gonna close up early. 16:00 should see us flying out the door and up the A90 to Perth. So, if you need any last minute bars, gels, cleats, pumps, tubes or even Chamois Butt'r, get in early so as not to be disappointed.

Etape Caledonia Recce Ride
You should already have spotted this on our Facebook page, but here's the information you'll need if you are planning to join us on Sunday 25th.
The plan is to do a relaxed ride around most of the EC course, missing out the loop around Loch Rannoch and probably the other one through Fortingall. That will leave us with something around 82km (51miles). We'll meet - at 9:30 - at the public car park in Atholl Road, Pitlochry - at 9:30. This is right beside the Tourist Information Centre and just past Escape Route (bike shop). There are likely to be other riders out doing the route too, so look for Colins light blue Fiat Uglipla.
Weather forecast is currently looking a wee bit damp, but not too windy.
Do please let us know if you're planning to come along.
If you want to see a map of the route, check out http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=118676. If you have a Garmin Edge, you can download a Garmin tcx file from here too.

Our famous (well they will be one day!) Summer Wednesday Night Night Rides have commenced informally. Come along if you like - let us know if you fancy it. Usually Pentlands, spin around for a few hours and then home for a cold beer. Email us.
We are currently very much enjoying the De Marchi range - it is nearly all in now. Want us to model some of it for you? If so, pop in and ask for the Eye Bleach and we will dance around in Lycra for you. Seriously though - great stuff, well made, well designed, looks good and flatters the figure. Come see! This guy knows what to do....

It looks like Zesty 714 and 914's are a goner... well, we have a few left but you might be wondering what you should buy instead.... Ibis Mojo's, that's what. See here. Described as a 'more refined' ride from a man who has ridden/owned both. Ask about a test ride.
05/04/10 - important
A friend of ours has gone missing... if any of you in the Quantocks region read this and you know anything could you let the Police know. Here is a link to the Police Website regarding Shane Austin aka Sharki.

POC is back in stock - that kind of rhymes! We have the VPD and some small drips of Bone in. Helmets and gloves still to come. CLICK ME FOR PAD ACTION

Well March has started very well indeed - lot's of pent up riding aggro out there caused by The Ice Age of 2010. Dakine bags are selling through extremely well, the new clothing ranges from Gore and Dakine are now all out on display - loads of nice kit to try on and buy.
Sadly the 'new' boy Jimmy got offered a job playing with computers and something called IT so he will be leaving us at the end of the month. Hopefully we can get someone to replace his unique Sheffield buffness.
The theme tune for March is : I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little Bit More by Barry White. We are even thinking about having a large Barry White Panic Button installed here for instant playback!
In other more serious news we are working through some older/special items of stock so keep an eye on our Special Offers page for these.
Bye!
23/02/10
Dakine - New Bags are here... they is yummy.

A good solid start to February - encouraging to see so many of you getting out there and getting the miles in.
Our Tartan saddle buy in - (New Gusset R-Series) - has gone down rather well! We haven't bothered with the other colours yet but we may do... not sure Denim is all that 'cool' next to Tartan!
Anyway - in other news, Colin FINALLY ordered himself a Van Nic Amazon frame and we have had a steady stream of expensive parts arrive for it as the build looms ever closer. That man needs to buy shares in the XTR division of Shimano.
If any of you fancy buying me a Yeti Arc-X frame then feel free. The one on the wall keeps winking at me and I am having sleepless nights thinking about how I can justify one. I can't though. This means that I simply have to get one. Maybe into the Autumn, maybe...
We got some more 'road' centric kit in this week too. Rolf Prima has arrived at TBC, it's a big step for us. We are getting more and more road visitors to the shop and we feel it's time to fully embrace the fact that road riding is a great thing. The bug has really bitten and we are looking forward to a top summer's worth of riding. In this vein - nip over to the Facebook page for details on our Etape Cally Recce ride Colin is organising. It WILL be fun.
Oh and one more thing before I go - I got a Mojo! It's a laugh. Go and read my mini rvw HERE.
Bye for now. Mark.
02/02/10

2. We need some room for summer Gore Bike Wear. To help this space appear we are offering 20% off remaining stock. We do actually have some normal sizes as well rather than the traditional sales of XL/XXL - go on take a wee look.

Ortlieb new stuff is IN. City Biker, Downtown and Saddle Bag Micro for kick off. Check them out for the blurb and what they do.
20/01/10
We got an Ibis Silk SL in today for a wee look at. Good solid carbon goodness. Nice features on there, nothing too 'fashionable' or faddish. Just common sense good design - liking the rear end at the stay/seat tube junction and the headtube is quite elegantly sculpted. Go and see it on our Facebook link up top.
11/01/10
Paypal back on. That's all!
We have disabled Paypal for a few days as we resolve some minor wee problems with it telling us important things like.... what you ordered for instance. Back soon!
First post of 2010. The Dawn Of The New Ice Age as it will be known throughout history in years to come. It is super cold. We are all wearing our bib's under jeans to stay warm as our storage heaters struggle to fend off the worst of the elements.
In other exciting news.... we have gone Turbo Trainer mad, we put one on display and 5 mins later it sells. We have a few in now. Nothing too fancy, just good solid functionality is the key. Set it up in front of Eastenders, watch them all moan at each other and at the same time you get more and more buff! Treat yourself to a beer or 5 afterwards. You know it makes sense.
New Yeti's are due soon, not soon enough in our eyes though. Pretty excited about the new 5 Carbon.
Rides will resume once the snow decides that it's not funny anymore so please keep an eye on Le Facebook Page for news on them.
